A Way To Be Dead with free The Last Crown: Blackenrock

£9.99

A Way To Be Dead with free The Last Crown: Blackenrock I am very excited to get the chance to play a proper game of A Way To Be Dead with my buddies. This is a 4 vs 1 style of game and it is sure to be a ton of fun with the right people. It has a horror setting and I think that the whole premise of the game is really cool. If you enjoy horror, survival, and multiplayer games then be sure to keep an eye on this game here.

Roots of Insanity

I was surprised to hear that the story and setting of the game is actually from another video game called, Roots of Insanity where the idea is that A Way To Be Dead lets you see events from a different point of view. I have not played Roots of Insanity (although I do plan on doing so) so I have to be honest and say I am not sure how well this ties into that.

However, I can tell you the idea of being one of four people waking up in a creepy abandoned hospital that is full of zombies and the deranged Dr. Riley hunting them down is something I can get behind.

Don’t Be Another Victim

If you are playing as part of the team of four victims, you get to play as one of four different victims. The way that you play as a victim in A Way To Be Dead is that you need to survive and get to various locations as you do. The game is played from the first-person point of view which should make things even more tense and scary which is awesome. You need to sneak around as you can make too much noise if you are not careful which can alter the Dr to your presence as well as the zombies. If you get bitten by a zombie, you become one yourself!

The Dr. Will See You Now!

As well as playing as one of the four victims, you can also play as the crazy Dr. Riley as you hunt them down to pump them full of your crazy serum… whatever that may be. You need to stalk them, lay in wait and listen and look for any alerts that will show you where they are. He is fast and powerful and can even transform into a horrific zombie type creature himself. Actually, in between rounds, you get to spend points you have earned to make yourselves stronger no matter if you are the Dr or one of the victims.

Team Work Or Not?

I think what is great about games like A Way To Be Dead is that 9/10 you guys start out with a plan and want to work together. Truth be told, working together is probably your best bet at surviving this place.

However, when something goes wrong like a zombie comes after our Dr. Riley jumps out after laying in wait, things can go to hell and you guys get split up!

While visually, A Way To Be Dead may not be the most appealing game, I think there is a lot of fun to be had here. Those of you who have enjoyed games such a Friday the 13th and Dead by Daylight can add this one to your rotation as I feel it is offering a similar kind of experience. You can play on your own with random people, but I think the real fun is had when you are playing with your buddies.

Pros:

  • I love the whole premise and setting of this messed-up world!
  • Dr. Riley is pretty interesting
  • This is a game that will make you scream and laugh!
  • If you are looking for more multiplayer games to play with friends, this is perfect

Cons:

  • The graphics are very dark
  • It is the kind of game you have to play with others to get the best out of it

The Last Crown: Blackenrock is the third game in the series which started all the way back in 2008! This one brings more of the ghost hunting and spooky goings-on from the small English village that seems to have a lot of paranormal activity going on. If you like ghost stories and point and click style adventure games, you are going to get a real kick out of what this is offering.

The Haunting Mystery of Blackenrock

As you would expect from a point-and-click adventure game, The Last Crown: Blackenrock is very story-driven so I do want to be careful about what I say here. Nigel Danvers is the best damn ghost hunter around and he has had a strange feeling about a place called Blackenrock. The game takes place in the spooky English coastal village known as Saxton, but Nigel and his fellow ghost hunter, Lucy will have to head out to sea to truly solve this grisly mystery of what is going on.

What I love about the story here is that it is not taking itself too seriously. There is a fair bit of camp here and that is something that I do like. Still, this can send the odd shiver down your spine so be prepared to have more than a few jump scares as the story moves on!

Who You Gonna Call?

I have said a few times now that The Last Crown: Blackenrock is a point-and-click adventure-style game and that really is the best way to describe it. What I love though are the ghost-busting items you have. You may not have an unlicensed nuclear proton pack on your back, but you do have other cool stuff that can help capture images of ghosts and communicate with them.

You have to talk to the townspeople, solve puzzles and get to the bottom of the mystery. Some of the stuff can be a bit on the cryptic side, but that is by design. You are supposed to be an investigator so you will have to do some research and examine the things you find and uncover. The exploration is great as the game is played from both a first-person and third-person point of view.

The Camera Obscura

I have to say that visuals are probably not the strongest thing that The Last Crown: Blackenrock has going on. The character models look like they are from a game that was made around ten years ago. They do not spoil the game or anything like that, but they do kind of stick out. What the game does very well is create a very creepy and spooky atmosphere! I love when you use the camera and get a glimpse of a ghost, or when you go to a new area to explore and a shadow makes you jump.

The Haunted Sound

I love the soundtrack as it is very creepy and fits the visuals and story of the game very well. It has some solid British voice acting too. Why is it that a posh British voice always sounds way scarier than any other kind of accent? The sound design is actually one of the main things that is going to creep you out as you play through this game.

If you like scary stories and the macabre, The Last Crown: Blackenrock is a game for you. Even though this is the third game in the series, you do not need to have played the others to jump in here. It is its own contained story and it is a pretty damn good one too that kept me guessing all the way to the end. It does have some of your typical point-and-click adventure-style game trappings, but for the most part, this is a fun ghostly experience that is sure to get under your skin!

Pros:

  • I loved the setting of the game
  • If you enjoy ghost and scary stories, you will get a real kick out of this
  • I enjoyed how creepy the environments were
  • That British voice acting sure does add to the creepy vibe!

Cons:

  • The character models feel like they are from a much older game
  • Some of the puzzles can be very obscure and hard to figure out
